Cumberland Count Schools logo of red and yellow book with a stylized blue person over it, the words Cumberland County Schools Health Services belowWe are experiencing an active flu season in North Carolina. Because of this, we have sent home a letter with students to share best practices for maintaining healthy lifestyles. If your child has flu-like symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and other stomach/GI symptoms or a fever of (100 degrees F) (37.8 degrees C or greater), your child is to remain at home. Other symptoms include headache, sore throat, cough, nasal congestion, and runny nose. It is recommended that children who present multiple symptoms remain at home. No student shall return to school until they have been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicine, even if they feel better. One way to combat the spread of illness is good hand washing, which should consist of using good scrubbing or friction for 20 seconds. We continue to work as a school system to help prevent widespread respiratory illnesses, and we appreciate your continued support.
